deborah: The management regrets that it was unable to find a Gnomic Utterance that was suitably irrelevant. (gnomic)

I'd like you to meet my new friend, who is totally 1337. Her name? BARBIE.

Barbie's delivery box is an amazing work of detail in itself. See the cubicle farm over the top of her wall?
Pastel cubicle walls barely visible at the top of the cardboard box in which Baribe was delivered. Post-it notes are everywhere.

Her cubicle has a stuffed penguin:

Her thumb drive looks like a Barbie shoe. Also visible: the Chinese food and Big Gulp cup above.:

Under her desk the CPU case is open and on a wheeled cart for easy disassembly.

Still on the box illustrations, a tower CPU open showing circuit boards. Inside the open CPU case, an upside down pink triangle in a black border.

And am I reading too much into that odd pink triangle?

And Barbie herself? Hipster specs and glitter eyeshadow, bluetooth headset, massive digital watch, and iPhone.

Her sneakers manage to look like sneakers but if you take them off, she has normal wacky Barbie feet.
Barbie, with one shoe on and the other one off. The barefoot looks pointed but the shod foot doesn't.

Her laptop shows the Barbie website. I'm going to replace the screen with a tiny screenshot of the Geek Feminism homepage.

The overall effect of Barbie in her glitter stretch pants and sparkle binary shirt is pretty awesome.

The back of the box explains how you become a programmer:
1. Look for code on the back of the collectible card! 2. Go to 3. Enter code to become a computer engineer online!

I do understand that computer engineer Barbie is kinda subversive, kinda hegemonic. If nothing else, she's still Barbie. But right now I'm focusing on glee. She's not a pretty pretty princess or prom queen: she's a hacker extraordinaire.

Besides, with two older sisters, this is the first time I've ever had a brand-new Barbie before.

Geek Feminism mod: YES!

High-heeled feet: Hahahahaha! And it's just as funny this morning, as it was last night. :-D

I'm impressed: she's both recognizably and convincingly Barbie AND recognizably and convincingly geeky.

This is... kind of shockingly awesome. My nieces aren't old enough, or I would so be buying this for them.

Also, I remember Barbie feet being way weirder than that (spike-heel feet) when I was a kid. Have they really changed, or am I nuts?
