Yes! I remember watching a friend be on tumblr on her phone, and it was seriously just swipe tap swipe tap swipe tap swipe tap for a long, long time, and I was like, is that what I do? It was eye opening.

I love the reward of getting comments on a post, but it's work to give and to get them -- and actually creating funny viral jokes is less likely to get comments, in some ways. Those types of things get likes and kudos, not feedback.

(Oddly I'm very pro kudos buttons at the AO3, though I know at least one person who loathes them there. But that's a context where you're really reading; it's hard to be a zoned out click-machine in a fic.)

Gnomic Utterances. These are traditional, and are set at the head of each section of the Guidebook. The reason for them is lost in the mists of History. They are culled by the Management from a mighty collection of wise sayings probably compiled by a SAGE—probably called Ka’a Orto’o—some centuries before the Tour begins. The Rule is that no Utterance has anything whatsoever to do with the section it precedes. Nor, of course, has it anything to do with Gnomes.
