Thanks for this. I've not really been on Tumblr much, but I totally agree with you. I'd also like to bring up another point. As a long-time screen reader user, I have certainly seen a number of inaccessible websites, not to mention pieces of software. These run the gamut of containing just a few unlabeled buttons, to containing those inaccessible CAPTCHAs with no alternative. It seems to me at least, that most if not all of the sharing services out there are either partially or totally inaccessible to screen readers. They might be inaccessible to others too FAIK, but I'm only a screen reader user. When I switched from Windows to the Mac platform at the end of 2013, I was looking for a web-based platform to host my journal/blog. I previously had these on other platforms, and the screen reader access varied a great deal. Then I found Dreamwidth, upon a recommendation on a gaming-related website. I'd have to say that Dreamwidth is hands-down the most accessible platform I've used at least where VoiceOver and Chromevox on the Mac are concerned. And, it doesn't contain all those complicated sharing buttons/widgets.
