my to read stack is now three double-stacked shelves downstairs, one double-stacked shelf upstairs, and a couple of books that haven't even been published yet thanks to friends of mine who also review. I kind of just want a six-month vacation from life just to catch up on books.

Although I suppose this comes back to the world's smallest violin issue. Oh no! I have too many wonderful books waiting for me to read them! Oh dearie me!

Gnomic Utterances. These are traditional, and are set at the head of each section of the Guidebook. The reason for them is lost in the mists of History. They are culled by the Management from a mighty collection of wise sayings probably compiled by a SAGE—probably called Ka’a Orto’o—some centuries before the Tour begins. The Rule is that no Utterance has anything whatsoever to do with the section it precedes. Nor, of course, has it anything to do with Gnomes.
