deborah: The management regrets that it was unable to find a Gnomic Utterance that was suitably irrelevant. (gnomic)
I've placed an item in the [community profile] help_japan auction on behalf of Her Royal Awesomeness Kristin Cashore: books: signed/personalized Graceling + Fire.

A signed and/or personalized set of the fantasy novels Graceling and Fire, by Kristin Cashore, English language editions, to the four highest bidders. Kristin will mail them anywhere in the world. [...] The author reserves the right to decorate the title page with stickers of knights in shining armor jousting with fire-breathing chickens.

Go! Drive the bidding through the roof! It's all for the benefit of Doctors Without Borders if you do!

Gnomic Utterances. These are traditional, and are set at the head of each section of the Guidebook. The reason for them is lost in the mists of History. They are culled by the Management from a mighty collection of wise sayings probably compiled by a SAGE—probably called Ka’a Orto’o—some centuries before the Tour begins. The Rule is that no Utterance has anything whatsoever to do with the section it precedes. Nor, of course, has it anything to do with Gnomes.
