Gnomic Utterances. These are traditional, and are set at the head of each section of the Guidebook. The reason for them is lost in the mists of History. They are culled by the Management from a mighty collection of wise sayings probably compiled by a SAGE—probably called Ka’a Orto’o—some centuries before the Tour begins. The Rule is that no Utterance has anything whatsoever to do with the section it precedes. Nor, of course, has it anything to do with Gnomes.

Date: 2006-11-08 04:21 pm (UTC)Re: 2. If it needs perpetual preservation, put it in the IR. If not, don't. Your other problem is access rights, of course -- but if your IR is campus-only access, that becomes less of an issue.
My sense is that in five to ten years the multiple-product problem will be less annoying; we should have much better interop and more fully-featured offerings. But for now, yes, it's a distinct problem.
