we had some conversation (unfortunately, after the job description was approved) about considering "or equivalent experience". We've definitely encountered a few people who don't have MLS but have other excellent experience, say, educational technology or the like.
So I wouldn't say "don't apply", even without the MLS. Obviously it's not up to me in the end, but I think if we get the right candidate, the degree won't necessarily be a killer.
