this is a very small violin you are playing for me, isn't it?

I am honored to be a presenter at the forthcoming Diana Wynne Jones Conference, in Bristol this July. (Except now I have to write the paper.)

I am honored to've been asked to teach Fantasy and Science Fiction at the Center for the Study of Children's Literature again this Fall. (Except now I have to prep for the class again.)

If only my time-consuming avocational successes paid well enough to support me, so that making time for them could be easy.

Believe it or not, I know the feeling.

I have five-and-a-bit talks to prepare, from ten minutes to three hours in length, between now and mid-July. Two of these are paying gigs. The rest, well...

Heh. I talked to my boss's boss a few weeks ago about what my job is like. I 'lowed as how most IRs function on the Heron Way of Being -- stand around and wait for stuff to come to you.

This leaves more time than you would think.

Both of those are bits of awesome news! I'm insanely jealous of anyone just going to taht DWJ conference, let alone presenting.

Very true. I certainly have become more cautious in my spending and therefore have gone to far fewer cons than I had expected to, given how many awesome cons are in Boston.

As for DWJ in specific - if only it wasn't across the pond from me, or I could get funding...! Well, hopefully it will be a rousing success and I'll be able to go in future years.

Oh, I'm plenty tempted, but British Airways doesn't accept candy -- even gelt -- to pay for travel.

Kick ass!
I had a little violin somewhere for you but I dropped it and now I can't find it on the carpet.
