I think there is an incorrect belief among many white Americans, which is reinforced by the standard cultural education in the U.S., that Native stories are "ours", particularly in contrast to the local cultural legacy that belongs to Europeans. So Americans may react more strongly to critiques of Native appropriation. Since I'm not a ChildLitter, I don't know if that's going on on ChildLit, but it seems possible.
