When I started the GSLIS program in the Spring of 2007, everyone warned me not to take reference with Allen Smith. "It's too hard," they said. "He's unreasonable," they said. They were all wrong.
The class was challenging, informative, and exciting, and he was quirky and wonderful. I feel so fortunate to have studied reference with Allen Smith, and am despondent that I will not be able to follow that up with his Oral History class as I'd hoped.
Simmons has lost a key part of its faculty; one who will not be easily replaced.
