I find myself thinking similar thoughts about a lot of music. Many first albums show a lot of potential but also significant flaws. (This is true both for teenaged musicians and older musicians who have worked their way up to their first recording.) When they turn into big hits, the musicians have no incentive to get better. I'd just as soon see them spending some more time working out how to make a truly great song.
But both the publishers and the musicians have a strong short-term incentive to take the money and run.
